Having a Reiki treatment and self care via Reiki for relief from stress

I believe that stress is an emotion, all emotions create chemicals in the body and the chemical which stress ‘produces’ is cortisol. If someone is repeatedly feeling stressed this will continually produce cortisol in the body which has negative effects. The physical feeling that stress produces is tiredness. So if you feel tired a lot and don’t know why it could be caused by stress that you are having. It is of course a good idea to reduce the reasons for stress in your life so that you feel better in the long term and are able to enjoy life more.

Reiki can help alleviate stress by:

  1. Giving you a space to relax and feel calm within and an opportunity to relax during your day or week. And if it is a reiki session you are having with a reiki practitioner, then it is a booked time for you to switch off, close your eyes and allow the practitioner to create a space of calm and relaxation for you. Somewhere you can escape your daily problems and just take some time out for self care and to recouperate.
  2. Helping the body to heal itself. Our body will heal better when in a relaxed state, our muscles are a good example of this, when you feel stressed often our muscles become tense in one part of the body or another, and results in pain and discomfort, when we are able to relax, this tension is alleviated and the pain diminishes and the muscles can heal instead of becoming worse.
  3. Helping sleep. Reiki aids sleep and our body recovers and repairs during sleep. It is always repairing itself, but we do need to sleep for our body to function well, and to sleep enough and to sleep well. So Reiki can help reduce stress by helping us to sleep better and get a better nights sleep.
  4. By eliminating blockages. Reiki eliminates blockages in our energy system. Stress can create blockages in our energy system which reiki helps to eliminate blockages so that energy can flow normally.
  5. Reiki can help to lift the spirits and enable us to feel more able to cope with any difficulties which we may have.

These are a few examples of how reiki helps if someone is feeling stressed, there are more ways which I wlll be talking about another day.

Swimming in the sea, rivers or lakes

The benefits of swimming in cold water. I have always loved going in the sea and have always believed that the cold water is very good for you. I have also swum in some lakes as well, but it is the sea which I usually swim in, without a wet suit. When you imerse yourself in the cold water, you obtain the benefits from doing that as well as the enjoyment of it. It’s April now and I have not been in the sea yet this year so hopefully soon.

Hatsurei Ho

I have done a facebook live of Hatsurei Ho, which may be a shortened version of it. Click the link to go to facebook page and watch it, you can follow the exercises along with me. And can do it whether you are trained in reiki or not. This exercise is good for release of tension, stress, anxiety and for relaxation and enhancing your reiki practice. If you watch it, or listen and follow it, it would be great if you could send me some stars in return. Enjoy your day.

Guided Imagery

When I do guided mediation along with this is guided imagery, guiding clients during mediation to imagine and picture e.g. that they are walking along a beach or in a forest. I read this with interest about guided imagery and thought I would share it with you.

The following is guided imagery connected to psychology and cognitive behaviour therapy and it’s usages to help people recover from e.g. anxiety or post truamatic stress disorder.

Sometimes in the past, I have imagined situations with alternative endings to them, happier endings, more comforting endings than what actually happened. And although, it can not change the past, it did help me to feel better even thought nothing had actually changed except my emotions. I think it did help as well, to realise that sometimes what we feel about something that has happened that upsets us is more to do with our ideas and interpretations of it rather than the occurance itself, so if we imagine alternative happier outcomes, we can see sometimes that the differences are not so drastic, and maybe in turn that the event itself was not so drastic and we can feel differently about what has happened and be more accepting of ourselves and that we do not always make good decisions and forgive ourselves for this.

Being Reiki, Being non-judgemental

Reiki is known as your bright light and living reiki and being reiki is living the precepts which are:

His five precepts have a long history, coming from a Tendai sect of Shugendo that Usui was in contact with, and this is what they are:

Just for today
Do not anger
Do not worry
Be humble
Be honest in your dealings with people
Be compassionate to yourself and others

Just for today means being fully engaged in the moment, being mindful. I believe also that ‘just for today’ means the opposite, it means trying to do these things every day and all the time as well.

I believe in being non-judgemental and this is what I try to do in my life and dealings with people. As long as people are not hurting others I don’t mind what they do, people need to do what they need to for their life and no one can live your life for you. I did another post which stated that I don’t care what ethnicity, background, where people come from, what they define themselves as etcetera. This is all part of being non-judgemental and non-discriminate. This world is not an easy place and one of the ways we can help others is by living these precepts and adding to them, being non-judgemental and accepting of others differences and other peoples choices. So, when I read posts in reiki groups that appear to be judgemental about reiki practitioners and people in general, it saddens me.

And to create a safe and caring and reiki inspired space for your customers and pupils, we need to be non-judgement and non-critical and promote an accepting and inclusive space where all are welcome. There are many good reiki teachers and we do not need to be perfect, reiki is very versatile energy, a very gentle and non-discriminate energy, it works for everyone. It is gentle and we need to be gentle with ourselves and with other people as is reiki.

Your Bright Light

Reiki is your bright light and we can think that by practising Reiki and learning Reiki, and doing Reiki meditations, and following the precepts, that in these ways we are returning to our bright light.

It is good to follow the precepts and I do teach about the precepts on my Reiki courses.

Just for today

Do not anger

Do not worry

Be humble

Be honest in your dealings with people

Be compassionate to yourself and others

These precepts come from a Tendai sect of Shugendo that Usui was in contact with. I do believe that is a good thing to follow these precepts and especially, not becoming angry with yourself and with others. Being angry with yourself, can lead to all sorts of problems, and being angry with other people can lead to further aggression, and problems in relationships.

There are many people who are all the above and have not even heard of Reiki, so I think it is important to remember that one doesn’t need to be a Reiki practitioner to be honest, or compassionate, or to be trying to avoid worrying. Also, one important strength which I would add to these precepts is: Do not be selfish, be considerate of other people and their needs.

When Usui talks about ‘Just for today’, I think that he was saying about trying every day to do this, to think each day, that ‘just for today’ I will…..He was saying to try and follow the precepts every day.

Another aspect of ‘Just for today’ is that he could have been talking about being Mindful, and saying right now, be mindful of what you are doing, you don’t need to be angry, or to worry about anything, and be compassionate with yourself, because right now, you matter, this moment, you matter, and be kind and compassionate to yourself and others this moment.

Living your life with the precepts in your heart and in your spirit, will help your spiritual path, it will help your life. Reiki and meditation will help you if you are prone to any negative issues, like being angry too often, or worrying too often as well. When you feel angry or worried, remember that ‘Just for today’ you will try not to become angry or worried, and will do what you can to resolve the problems which have brought about this negative emotion, as well as sitting and relaxing in Reiki energy and meditating.

Being compassionate with yourself can mean many things. Some things it can mean are: not being hard on yourself for your mistakes, means forgiving yourself of your past mistakes, means not pushing yourself so hard that you make yourself ill, means not pushing yourself so hard that you are unable to do everything you need to do, it means making sure that you treat yourself as important, and that you remember that your needs are important. It means caring about yourself and your life.

Being compassionate to others, all the above, can be applied to other people. Other people’s needs and feelings are important, and being kind to other people and treating other people with care and kindness is important. It is important not only for those people we come into contact with, but it is important for ourselves, for our lives.

Aromatherapy

I am a qualified aromatherapist and have been using essential oils for about 27 years. They have many uses and properties. They don’t just smell great, they are good for your health and are used to help overcome illness, stress, menopausal symptoms for relaxation and to aid sleep and much more. Every oil has it’s own properties and usages and also have other oils which they combine and work well with. During an aromatherapy consultation an holistic approach is taken so that the oils chosen take everything into account about a person, emotion, physical and health issues and what someone wants to have aromatherapy for on that day. So one appointment one set of oils will be chosen and on another day, another set of oils could be chosen. As well as providing aromatherapy massages, I also provide aromatherapy consultations via email and then post out the blended oil so that the client can use it, good for clients who are not in my area and who don’t want to have a massage but would like to have oils or their own use blended specially for them rather then buying a generic oil blend in a shop. This is my essential oil set, ready for a customer to have a massage.

Art

I started painting this year and am enjoying it. I have always liked drawing and used to draw a lot years ago. I am selling any paintings I paint so enquire if you are interested in any of them. They can be posted out to anywhere in UK. The two paintings that are ongoing are of a sunset seascape a field of lavender with butterflies . I am painting at the moment in acrylics, I didn’t feel that watercolour painting was for me but I do have some oil paints so I may try oil painting as well. I am painting for pleasure and for the experience and the therapy of painting and being expressive with colours and visually artistic. I like painting things that have movement and things that move but have been caught as if on camera while they are in motion such as butterflies and waves. I enjoy the way that acrylics are layered when you paint with them and you can paint as many layers as you want to make a painting how you want it and what you want to achieve with the colours. It is all a learning experience.

International Women’s Day Today

It’s International Women’s Day today, what have you done today? Have you celebrated somehow? There is a lot to celebrate… women’s progress… women’s accomplishments….women’s good ideas…. women’s art and writing…women politicians…

Or have you protested? Talked about it? Remembered the suffragettes and what they did for women? Have you remembered to taken time out to care for yourself or taken time out to care for your female friend or relative today?

What shall we do on International womens’ day? Fund raising for women’s issues or charities is something. Look for a virtual women’s event online or if there are any in person ones in your area is another. Are there any programmes on tv to watch about it? There was the Suffragettes film on yesterday but I have watched films before about it and so I didn’t watch this new film, but I have heard it is very good. I do think that there is a lot of women who don’t understand the inequalities and sexism that women in the past had to deal with and that many women still have to deal with this even in 2023.

When I think about it being International Women’s Day it make me sad it makes me happy both. Sad because of all that has gone on in the past and is still going on today to make womens’ lives difficult and happy because there has been much progress and that I hope there will still be much more progress for women and of course for men too and everyone else, whatever they identify as.

To look at what the United Nation’s is saying about it:

https://www.unwomen.org/en/news-stories/in-focus/2023/03/in-focus-international-womens-day

The United Nations is talking about women online and state that they are ‘calling on governments, activists and the private sector alike to power on in their efforts to make the digital world safer, more inclusive and more equitable.’  and I do agree with this.

Sky sports is celebrating women in sport.

Good Housekeeping is talking about women’s empowerment and the history of it. And they have some inspirations quotes about women’s empowerment. These are a couple I found I liked on there.

Manchester city council had a walk for women on Saturday 4th, I wish I had gone to it, but I didn’t know about it until today. https://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200041/equality_and_diversity/6616/international_womens_day_2023

Waterstones says that International Women’s Day ‘is a global recognition of women’s achievements, with the aim of championing a better, fairer society for all.’ https://www.waterstones.com/campaign/international-womens-day

The University of Birmingham where I studied Sociology at degree level and it is a wonderful university, says that ‘To mark IWD, the University runs a diverse programme of events throughout March, focusing on women’s voices history and experiences.’

Whatever you are doing today, may peace, health and happiness be with you.
