I am a pet sitter. I look after pets living at the pet owner’s home while they go away on trips and holidays. I love it. I love looking after the pets, cats and dogs and it gives me the chance to have a break myself and a change of scenery. On the website Trusted Housesitters, there are alsort of animals and birds, fish and reptiles as well. I have only looked after cats, dogs and fish up to now, but am open to looking after chickens which often allow you to have freshly laid eggs for breakfast. There are some lovely looking rabbits on the site which I would like to look after but I think I will have to say no to some of the reptiles and arachnids, gosh I spelt it right first time. I have met many absolutely lovely cats and 4 lovely dogs up to now. The owners are great too and very hospitable and friendly.
I remember my first pet sit in Weymouth with Nunu, she was an absolutely gorgeous cat. I went into the house and called shouted ‘Where’s Nunu?’ And she appeared on the pouffe next to me looking up at me. I stopped setting my alarm in the morning to feed her and she used to wake me up for breakfast which she had early at 7 am so then I would feed her. After giving her breakfast I would go back to bed and after eating it and going outside for 5 minutes she would come and go back to sleep on the bed with me. On an evening she would sit on the settee next to me.
Flint near Derby was great too, he used to lie next to me on the settee when I watched television on an evening in the living room as well and he enjoyed being brushed every day. It is lovely to get to know them all. When I was eating my dinner one day at the dining table, next thing I know, Flint the maine coon was sat on the chair next to me. He does like to be next to you when you are sat somewhere and is so friendly.
I go to the coast where I can go in the sea and body board if the beach has a lot of surf. I have breaks in lovely villages and city breaks. I have not been outside the UK on a pet sit yet but there are many places I would like to go abroad looking after pets. Of course it is easier to just get in my car and drive to somewhere in the UK and one abroad would take more planning with the flights to arrange. But eventually, I am sure I will look after some pets in maybe America or Canada, Italy and Switzerland, Austria and Australia.
